Land of the Dead

George RomeroAfter the huge success of the Dawn of the Dead remake and its spoof Shaun of the Dead, Fox finally saw fit to green light George Romero‘s latest entry in the original “Dead” saga. The series started in 1968 with Night of the Living Dead, followed with 1978’s masterpiece Dawn of the Dead, and until now, ended in 1985 with the underappreciated Day of the Dead. The new film will be called Land of the Dead, and is to be released October 21, 2005, a full two decades after its most recent prequel.

Set many years after ‘Day of the Dead’, society has returned to life in a new way. The zombies are rotting away into irrelevance and are now disregarded much like the way homeless people are today, as the human survivors live in a fortified city, trying to live normal lives. Protecting them is an enormous tank-like vehicle called the Dead Reckoning with the artillery and firepower of a small nation. This story shows what happens when the Dead Reckoning’s reasonable leader, Riley, loses control of his command. Riley must try to take back control of this powerful vehicle, while at the same time battling his way through a city filled with zombies… – All Things Zombie

Tom SaviniThe film will star Dennis Hopper (the biggest name actor in the entire series), Asia Argento, John Leguizamo, and reportedly will have Tom Savini playing dual roles, including the undead version of his character from Dawn. The creators of Shaun of the Dead, Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg will have cameos as members of the living dead as well. The Horror Channel just snagged an interview with Romero, and Dark Horizons discussed the film with Tom Savini a few months ago. Both are surprisingly descriptive, not to mention optimistic. And no, the zombies will not be doing any running in this one.
