A-Team, Knight Rider Magnum P.I.

If the 80s were good for anything, they were good for cheesy action — just look at this collection (WARNING: potentially offensive). Some of the best action of the era came from three shows that have become staples of daytime TV – The A-Team, Magnum P.I., and Knight Rider. Universal recently released season 2 of these three shows in beautifully rendered DVDs.

“I pity the fool who goes out tryin’ a’ take over da world, then runs home cryin’ to his momma!” –B.A. Baracus

ImageThe A-Team is the best of the bunch, an ensemble effort featuring the likes of Dick Benedict, George Peppard, and the inimitable Mr. T as himsel– I mean, B.A. Baracus. Magnum P.I. is second best, Tom Selleck playing the audacious titular character. Selleck was cool enough to be first pick for Indiana Jones, and though dated, this show proves it. While not as good as the others, Knight Rider provided solid entertainment week in and week out, though most of the charm still comes from seeing David Hasselhoff outsmarted by a car.

ImageImagePossessed of fantastic cars, bloodless shootouts, fun locales, and characters WORTH caring about, these three series provide a nice counterpoint to the current crop of grim, take-no-prisoners action films and TV shows. You can purchase The A-Team here, Magnum P.I. here, and Knight Rider here.

These are fantastic shows, but I’m sure you already know that.
