After the huge success of the Dawn of the Dead remake and its spoof Shaun of the Dead, Fox finally saw fit to green light George Romero‘s latest entry in the original “Dead” saga. The series started in 1968 with Night of the Living Dead, followed with 1978’s masterpiece Dawn of the Dead, and until now, ended in 1985 with the underappreciated Day of the Dead. The new film will be called Land of the Dead, and is to be released October 21, 2005, a full two decades after its most recent prequel.
Set many years after ‘Day of the Dead’, society has returned to life in a new way. The zombies are rotting away into irrelevance and are now disregarded much like the way homeless people are today, as the human survivors live in a fortified city, trying to live normal lives. Protecting them is an enormous tank-like vehicle called the Dead Reckoning with the artillery and firepower of a small nation. This story shows what happens when the Dead Reckoning’s reasonable leader, Riley, loses control of his command. Riley must try to take back control of this powerful vehicle, while at the same time battling his way through a city filled with zombies… – All Things Zombie
